Tarot Tuesday

universe

I had this brainiac idea two years ago to combine my love for Nia and my love for Tarot.  Alas, it was not to be until 2016.

My own Tarot guru (www.thetarotlady.com) did an Entrepreneurcast in 2015 for me. The words I took from her beautiful work for 2015:  Dream, Create, Study, Learn, Inquire and Prepare.

My previous blog post alluded to my tapping into tarot by using a tarot card for each Nia class…well, the Universe had a different plan based on my Entrepreneurcast and my decision to do something more in-depth with Tarot and Nia!  Voila’!!  Tarot Tuesday was born.

Here’s how it goes:  One of my students gives me a question.  I do a tarot reading and then sit with it a bit and the final step before taking it to class is to find music to go with the reading….I call it “dancing the cards.”  The actual reading takes about 15-20 minutes at the beginning of class.  We all gather around enlarged paper copies of the Celtic Cross tarot layout. I do the reading.  In the moment feedback is encouraged and welcomed.  Then I pick up the cards and we dance.

To date, Tarot Tuesday has been well-received and well-attended!!  SUCCESS!!  It was foreseen that this would be the result…a lot of hard work, studying learning, inquiring of the cards and preparing the classes has been absolutely AWESOME.

In case you’re wondering, I use the Chyrsalis tarot deck. It’s a non-traditional tarot deck. It drew me in and speaks quite clearly to me and through me.

Combining Nia and Tarot, my two passions for creative inspiration and expression is nothing less than perfect…I made a decision and the Universe conspired to make it happen.  Not in my time, but in spirit’s.

I am blessed to have a Nia community with open mind and open hearts.  They are all my heroes.

Nia and Tarot

It is what it isSo you might ask what Tarot and Nia have to do with one another.  They are more similar than different actually.  They both move me deeply.  I am guided by spirit when reading Tarot or when dancing Nia. Both require listening to my intuition and sensing in all the realms — physical, emotional, mental and spirit.

My plan is to begin using one Tarot card to guide me in setting the focus and the intent  for each day and if there is a Nia class that day, that same focus will apply to the class.

I’m really excited about how this journey will unfold.  It is What It Is and I’m Going with the Flow.

Magic Moments

I remember watching the movie, “Grand Canyon” several years ago. It’s one of my all time favorite movies about life happening.  At one point in the movie, the wife (played by Mary McDonnell) is jogging and finds an abandoned baby. She doesn’t call the police and instead decides to keep it. When her husband (played by Kevin Kline) comes home and decides that she’s crazy, she tells him she believes it to be a miracle.  She tells him “Maybe we don’t have any experience with miracles so we’re slow to recognize them.”

That line has always stuck with me and I believe it to be true about magic.  Perhaps we don’t have enough experience in recognizing when magic happens.

Another line from the Grand Canyon movie during this same scene with the baby is when the husband groans from realizing that he is not going to win this argument and says “I’m getting a headache.” She tells him emphatically, “No. It is inappropriate for you to get a headache in the presence of a miracle.”

I believe that people in the our society today have allowed themselves to become numb to the intricacies of magical moments — they’re not finding and/or having any magical moments because they can no longer recognize them…and most people will not come far enough out of their comfort zone to allow magic to happen.

Magic has always been a part of my life. From the fairy tales my mom used to tell me to watching cartoons about magic to finally recognizing that it exists with every move I make.

My most current magical moment was in realizing that the respiratory cold my body is experiencing is not separate from the shifting consciousness I’m experiencing from my connection and communion with Nia, with Reiki and with Tarot.  That which no longer serves me has to move out in order for that which is waiting to serve me to come into place.  So I am grateful for what is moving out and for what is moving in.

In my last blog post I spoke of the words that had been given to me through spirit:  Gratitude and Forgiveness and the six words that have become my creative process were given to me by my Tarot guru (www.thetarotlady.com): Dream, Create, Study, Learn, Inquire and Prepare. My Dream is being created…I’ve already designed a class around dancing Nia to the energy of each of the Major Arcana tarot cards and a workshop designed to delve a little deeper into tarot and movement. I will be studying and learning more about how to best present my dream, I will be inquiring internally and preparing for what comes next.

For those of you who dabble in or know tarot, the cards related to my creative process are:

Seven of Cups:  “I am willing to do what I can to make my dreams a reality.”
Queen of Wands:  “I am powerfully creative. I trust and stoke my inner creative fire.”
The Chariot: “I can steer my life any way I wish”
Ace of Swords:  “New thoughts, ideas” and Eight of Swords REVERSED: “I am always able to find a way.”
High Priestess: “All the answers I need are within me. I trust my own intuition.”
Three of Wands: “I am ready to expand my world. My potential is unlimited.”

The Empress: “My creativity and abundance are unlimited” and the Knight of Cups: “I bring my innermost dreams to life” are my guides through the process.

There is even more being magically placed before me that I am unable to speak about just yet, but I know it’s powerful and I open my arms to what life has to offer.

My birthday was Sunday; my body turned 64 years of age. My spirit is eternal.

Step out of your comfort zone.  Say yes and be blessed.

Breaking Open

I had an epiphany today…actually just a few seconds ago.  Just when I think I’ve offered someone else a “lesson”, ffffwap!  It’s my lesson to be learned.  My motto recently is “I’m breaking open”.  It’s not violent, it doesn’t hurt (well, I can’t actually say it doesn’t hurt…perhaps not physically speaking anyway), there’s no mess to clean up (yeah, right)…it’s just a breaking open.  It starts with a little crack in the seam of my closely guarded, lightly armored heart.

It is my belief that through teaching and passionately sharing the principles of Nia (you do know what Nia is by now, yes??), by offering and passionately sharing Reiki, by opening myself to the mysteries of Tarot, by answering questions around what’s not working well with regard to my creativity, what are my weaknesses, what are my powers…well, the crack just begins to widen and there the stuff behind those walls is pretty darned scary…stuff I’d forgotten about, stuff that was from another lifetime. And by that I mean BC (before consciousness).

So here I am breaking open, it’s not pretty, but it’s healthy.  It’s not fun, but it’s necessary.  It is in living color and I get to be the creator/inspiration for what comes next.  That’s pretty freaking awesome.  When I stop to think about it, I swoon — I use the word swoon because there is a palpable sensation that emerges with the word “swoon.”  It’s a word that invites anticipation, romance and passion.  It’s so much more colorful than “faint.”  Faint connotates dropping on the floor — unconscious.  Swoon leaves me feeling dazzled, but conscious.

The breaking open is empowering.  It is life-altering.  And it is the best excuse (if one needs an excuse)  to dance through life — not with hobnail boots but barefoot, liberating, twirling, swirling, cascading, reaching, expressing…changing and transforming moment by moment.

Connections

Facebook_(login,_signup_page)

Wow.  I just read Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook post that today (February 4, 2014) is Facebook’s 10th Anniversary.  I’m thinking I must’ve joined around 6 or 7 years ago.  Facebook literally changed my life.  I’ve made wondrously magical the worldwide connections through Nia (www.nianow.com) and through Tarot (www.thetarotlady.com) — my two passions (beyond my husband and two cats) are teaching Nia and reading Tarot; finding friends I lost track of or haven’t connected with in…oh, say 25 years…wow.  Really WOW.  I have friends on Facebook with whom I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting and yet I feel as if we’ve been close friends for years.  I have friends on Facebook with whom I’ve had the distinct pleasure of meeting, of dancing with, of having lunches and dinners.  Most connections I have on Facebook are very special.  I’ve learned about conscious living, love, passion, compassion, giving, receiving, fitness programs and practices of all kinds, lifestyles, clothing, travel, food, nature, empowerment, sisterhood, community…I could go on and on.

Although Facebook was an addiction at first, it is now simply a fascinating network of connections with people I admire, respect and love.

For me, Facebook is a way to reach out; to speak my truth and have others comment and speak theirs; it’s a way of reaching out to let people know they are loved, they are being enfolded — a cyber embrace of sorts.  And of course, as with life in general, there are those who want to bring their own conflict, sadness, abusive photos and language, the wayward ways of the world up close and personal in their Facebook posts.  This year, I will no longer tolerate any of that.  Yes, it’s subjective.  But my objective is to keep my life free of energy vampires and casters of ill will.  There is no time or place in my life for that — time is moving much too quickly to waste it feeding or feeling bad vibes from folks who have a lack of consciousness.

It is about consciousness, you know.  Words and actions speak volumes.  Just look at the world today…IMHO it is not a joyous, prospering planet.  Conscious choices, connections of integrity and spirit.  I’m no Pollyanna.  I’m not looking to find the good in anything and everyone. That’s simply a foolish notion in today’s world.  I see ’em, I call ’em and I fold when I need to.  My intuition guides me more than anything.  My intuition has been my trusted guide for quite some time and has never failed me yet.

Do you use Facebook?  Are you connected with people of integrity, who are uplifting and compassionate?

Connections…
