Moving Energy

This Sunday I’m teaching my first Reiki I class since receiving my Reiki Master Teacher certification. What an honor. I believe I was born to do this; just as I was born to teach Nia. It’s in the stars. Really. Several years ago (more than 25 years!), I worked with an astrologist. My chart indicated that leading groups, energy work (Reiki) and creative arts (Nia) were very strong — this would be my direction in life.

At that time, I worked for a major corporation (from which I retired after 30 years in 1998). I felt I had no room in my life (at least that’s what I thought) for energy work or dance. Amazingly enough, I managed to fit in Reiki I (1986), Reiki II (1997), took Gabrielle Roth’s 7 Rhythms classes (1983 and 1993) and Eurythmy classes (1996) plus every aerobic fitness class available.

It wasn’t until I retired in 1998, moved to Indiana and subsequently to Wisconsin that the direction became apparent. I stepped in to the Nia White Belt Intensive in June of 2001, married my twin flame in July of 2001 and began a journey of consciously moving energy. My Nia practice (13+ years) has been my passion…I love to dance and Nia is conscious movement in the form of a dance exercise fitness fusion. My Nia and Reiki practices are (and have been) a part of the The Nutman Co. USA, Inc. business that my husband and I own.

My Reiki practice did not really take off until recently. I attended two Shamanic Journey workshops in March of 2014. From each of the journeys, I discovered that “Reiki Master” was the direction into which I should move. I found a Reiki Master Teacher close to home…one of my best friends and a Nia compadre! The Reiki Master and Reiki Master Teacher classes were exciting, filled with energy and except for my journey with Nia, was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

So now I get to put into practice my Reiki Master Teacher training. This Sunday, I’m stepping in to moving energy the Reiki way. I am so blessed.

Are you a Reiki practitioner? Have you had a Reiki treatment? Do you teach Nia? Have you taken a Nia class?

If you want to have the movement of energy in your life, these are two premiere modalities for doing so, and natural healing occurs along the way. It might be a cliche’ but “try it, you’ll like it!”

Smaller Movements

I seem to waffle between posting on my blog a lot or posting very seldom. Anyone else have that issue? I have the intention to blog every day, I just don’t do it. I’m going to reinstate the intention here that I would like to blog more often.

About a week ago, I started writing “morning thoughts” (yes, writing…as in longhand, cursive). Except for the weekend (do weekends count?), I have been true to writing down my thoughts without caring about proper punctuation or spelling — just stream of consciousness writing which pretty much amounts to getting all the buzzkill crap out of my head and onto paper.

A friend of mine posted on Facebook this morning about not always having to “push through” (relating to the fitness myth of having to push through pain or resistance in order to achieve greatness) but instead to use smaller movements, to even rest while moving.

Those words struck me deeply. As a Nia practitioner, my goal in every class is to bring a variety of movements and energies — but mostly I love the big movements — whether Tae Kwon Do kicks and punches or (Isadora) Duncan’s playful, freestyle of dance movements.

I’ve noticed that my physical stamina is not what it used to be. At the age of 30, I was doing amateur weightlifting (ala Arnold) and going to the health club EVERY day using all the machines and taking aerobics classes. My body was buff. At the age of 40, I gave the health club, machines and aerobics classes up and began to search for other types of dance exercise. I found Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms and Rudolf Steiner’s Eurythmy, which ultimately led me to Nia.

At the age of 63 (closing in on 64 — will you still need me?), I am committing to making smaller movements, slowing down, quieting down. That does not mean my Nia classes won’t be kick ass spectacular, they will be. But there will be a difference and it will be magical.

Entering the Gateway to 2014

abundance

If you follow my blog, you know that I teach Nia — it is my sacred livelihood. My Nia classes are full of creative expression, an invitation to live and dance the truth of who you are — spirit in action, clothed in an extraordinary physical manifestation.

I love ceremony, I love creating a space where others are invited to step into their greatness, their divinity. Everything in this world needs to be lifted up.  The Universe awaits the opportunity to manifest that which we wish to dream into reality…and it will…it does…now and always — the Universe responds to our call. Every thought, every word, every action creates our world. What is it that YOU wish to dream into reality? Be cautious and CONSCIOUS of your wishes. They do manifest. There is no one to thank or to blame but yourself for what is revealed.  Wouldn’t you rather be grateful for what comes forth rather than accusing, blaming or criticizing? Afterall, it’s your creation.

On the Winter Solstice, Dec. 21, 2013, a gathering of 13 (one of my favorite numbers) celebrated with a ritual of gratitude and forgiveness for our journey through 2013.  Although Midnight on December 31st in the Gregorian Calendar is normally celebrated as the ringing in of the New Year, in some cultures the Winter Solstice brings forth the new journey.  I recognize both as holy and sacred.

We began our time together in an empowering circle…the room was dimly lit.  There were blank pieces of paper and a crayon, a stone and an “Angel” card for everyone.  The invitation was to enter the space intuitively, sitting where one was drawn to do so.  The first offering to the Universe was to jot down three things we were grateful for in 2013, there was no time to think about it, let spirit guide. The second offering was to jot down one thing in 013 for which we wanted to receive forgiveness. Gratitude and Forgiveness are BIG MEDICINE. Each stone had a word carved on it. The specific word represented our something for which we were grateful and the word on the Angel Card contained our individual “energy” for the dance we would be participating in shortly.

And we danced…beautiful dancing bodies (12 women and 1 man).  The playlist contained the “mantra of joy”, a beautiful song about dreaming, a melodic song of winter, a song of “together as one” and then we gathered back in our circle to dream in 2014.  No time to think about it…let the crayon hit the paper and stream of consciousness take over. Fill the paper if necessary, or just write a few things.

Our time ended with hands in prayer position at the heart and the words, “Let Love Radiate” (words that I use to bring all of my Nia classes to a close).

The Universe is waiting to respond…that’s what it does…respond.

I sense a unique shift occurring…it is time to put the cards on the table. What’s in your hand? What are you dreaming into 2014?

Life As Art

I hosted and focused a “Life As Art” event on June 15th.  Everyone from my Nia community along with a few local Nia teachers who have come to my classes were invited.  Thirteen originally responded with a fourteenth student calling to say she was compelled to be at this event and would I still accept another participant — and of course I did!!

We began at my Sacred Space Studio where we danced to an incredibly sweaty Beatles routine with the focus of Life As Art — the dance of creating patterns. There were 19 dancers — the studio was full of energy!  The fourteen participants then met back at my house at 10:45, had some yogurt and fruit (readied by my wonderful husband), and gathered on our deck. I handed out the “welcome” packets that contained an journal, an envelope, 3 pieces of art paper, a gemstone, the 13 Nia White Belt principles with a specific “affirmation” respective of each, information about Zentangles, and a few select adages for the day (one on the dance of energy, one on Choices and one on leading a fascinating life. I directed everyone to look at the contents of their packet and then the contents of their envelope. The envelope contained one of three topics: Magic, Trust, or Surrender; 2 Zentangle squares, 2 body tattoos — everyone received “I AM” and then one other word (Passion, Breathe, Gratitude, etc. from Conscious Ink. Lastly (but not leastly) two letters of the alphabet.

I had everyone look at which topic they had and invited them to find their other group members — there would be 3 groups of 5. The way they found their groups was to strike up a conversation using their specific word. For instance, one of the participants had the word “magic” and struck up a conversation with a group of 4 or 5 folks by saying “isn’t this property just magical” — 4 of the 5 people said “YES it is magical”. And thus the first group was formed. The second group formed quickly from someone speaking about “trusting that the weather would hold out”; and the third “surrendered to the anticipation of how the day would unfold.”. There was one group who only had 4 members — I became the 5th member of the group who only had 4 members.

The participants were invited to take some time to walk the property. The weather was perfect (unlike the forecast which was for rain and storms all day); we have lots of areas to sit and meditate or take photos or simply to admire the beauty of nature. I walked up to the “ridge” where I could have an overview of our property. Different ones were walking together and looking at the flowers, plants, garden sculptures; others were sitting alone journaling, some were stopping to take photos. It was an incredibly rich panorama of spirited blessings. Truly magical.

We all had lunch together (provided by Frank…the food was incredibly delicious), and then broke up into our individual groups with the assignments of creating Zentangles — one person started a pattern and passed it on to the next person in the group until all 5 participants had a chance to create a pattern (there were 2 Zentangles for each person within a group) — along with Zentangling the group was invited to create on one of the sheets of art paper (or all 3 if they wished) their own “dance of energy”.

We came back together and shared our Zentangles and our artwork. Anita suggested that we share the vision for each of our “dances of energy”…which was an incredibly rich experience to listen to each person’s creative expression. Magical. We all sat together in our living room and shared why we thought we were in the particular group we were in — I suggested that it was not by accident and no coincidence that they were in their specific group. The trust and surrender from each person was indeed a magical experience. One person from each group read the related poem from that specific group (Magic, Trust or Surrender).

Our closing ceremony was to take the 2 letters of the alphabet they had each received and make a statement, “Now I Am __________ ___________. There were 3 participants who only had 1 letter — those 3 participants got to choose any letter of the alphabet to go along with the one they received. A very creative experience indeed (especially around the Q, X and Z!!!!).

After the event had completed, we sat around and sampled Frank’s wine and had gluten free chocolate chip cookies!! Not everyone was available to stay (or leave and come back) for dinner, so we all hugged and said our so-long, farewells. Several came back with a guest and we had a lovely dinner — again provided by Franko. The weather was PERFECT. The last person to leave was Catherine and as she drove off, the rain started to come down softly, only to turn into torrential rains and 60 mile and hour winds. It rained and stormed all night.

Incredible experience. I am blessed, truly and magically blessed through trust and surrendering to living in the moment and allowing spirit to open the doors of creative expression. I am so thankful for everyone’s participation and we will do it again!!!

An Abundance of Energy

Image

As seems to be the case in the last 12 month, I’m dealing with a physical injury; this time a sprained knee.  A friend (thank you Norma) commented to me that in Louise Hay’s book, “You Can Heal Yourself,” knee injuries can be about stubborn ego and pride; inability to bend, fear, inflexibility, won’t give in.  And to this I say, “Who, ME? Stubborn ego and pride?  Inability to bend?  Won’t give in??  ME??”

The new thought pattern. according to Hay, is “Forgiveness. Understanding. Compassion. I bend and flow with ease, and all is well.”   But for me this is not a new thought pattern.  I understand about forgiveness and compassion.  So what are these physical manifestations telling me?

Abundance.  That’s what came to me.  Abundance of love.  Abundance of life.  Abundance of truth.  Abundance of energy.

It’s been suggested that I get an MRI to get to the bottom of this ongoing  pelvic rotation problem as well as my knee re-injury.  But do I really want to subject my body to an MRI?  It’s still under consideration.

What if Life is saying that I have an abundance of energy; I am a vibrational being in a physical body and what if I were to continue to teach Nia from a more vibrational standpoint?  Obviously I have a body, so I live in the physical world.  As far as I know, science and medicine have not come up with a way to live forever, so yes, I will age and eventually this physical body will pass away.  And what is left then?  You got it.  Vibration.  Energy.  Until my body leaves this earth, my plan is to teach Nia…there will have to be an obvious shift of consciousness in order to allow that to happen.

I have absolutely no idea what this means.  Abundance is the word that is showing up in my mind, my heart, my physical body, the world around me.  I’m being asked to listen to creation.  Listen to what is being manifested.  Listen to the abundance of energy that is present.  Maybe at the age of 62, my body is asking that I find a different Level 3 energy (Level 3 being the highest level of physical energy exerted in Nia).  I’m still mulling it over.  Something is happening.  Another shift is about to take place.  And I’m welcoming it with open arms.

I’m also willing to surrender.  To let go of “stuff.”   It is a bit difficult to bend, to be flexible, to walk through the eye of a needle while carrying a matching set of Samsonite luggage full of crap.  Lighten it up.  Energy…a vibrational shift.

And I may still go and have the MRI.  I think it would be fascinating if the MRI showed nothing by a flow of energy and vibration through my body…it is there.

The Energy of Passion

Image

I had a new student in my Nia class last night.  As usual, there was a little apprehension, a little nervousness.  The first focus was “to self-induce an internal massage with the essential oil of pleasure.”  The second focus was “momentum”.

We stepped in…we began our warm up to the music of “Wish U Were Here” from the Fly routine…the music is sensual and conducive to self-inducing an internal massage with the essential oil of pleasure!!!  She got it.  She was smiling.  She was moving her body, undulating her spine, creepy crawler fingers…

As the hour progressed, she continued to let go.  I could see and sense her ability to go with the momentum of the movements.  She revealed in her a movements a passion for dancing…a passion for healing…

After class her eyes were wide with wonderment.  Her exact words were “Thank you, this has been a very special night.”  She’ll be back.

“Get In Your Body” — yep.  She did.  I did.  The rest of the students did, too.  And I do believe our focus became a reality…
