Scared or Sacred?

WarriorI

I remember as a child being terrified of the dark; most likely due to nightmares from watching movies like Dracula and Frankenstein…or it could be from my two older sisters telling me that monsters lived under my bed and in the closet.  What are sisters for if not for giving one a reason to grow strong and courageous??l!!

When I was very young, I’m thinking 7-9 years of age, as I lay in bed after mom kissed me good night and closed the door, I would focus on the light coming from beneath the door from the TV and the living room lights.  As I focused on that light, the door would shrink to the size of a stamp and everything else in the room (including my body) grew very large.  I don’t recall having what might be called an out-of-body experience but I do remember that shrinking the door and becoming big made me feel safe and strong.

At the current youthful age of 66, I’m still not fond of going to bed and having the bedroom door totally closed.  I leave it open just a titch so that there is a bit of light available and knowing my husband, my knight in shining armor, is only a few stairs away from me should those monsters under the bed decide to show their ugly heads.

My experience with tarot has been immensely helpful in my journey through being scared of the dark — I used to see the Devil, the Tower and the Death cards as ominously foreboding. Now I know that when the Devil card appears in a reading (my own or someone else’s), it is a reminder to acknowledge and incorporate the dark side (we all have one); when the Tower appears, I know not to put all my eggs in one basket so to speak, that a major collapse of something held dear might be just around the corner; or if the Death card appears I’m actually jubilant!  Something is about to change drastically and letting go of things that no longer serve Life will aid in the transformation.

I have found that my journey has been more about seeking and embodying the sacred — rather than being scared.  It’s about seeing things with new eyes.

My Awakening the Tarot: Embodying the Cards classes are on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.  I’ve found the best way to awaken the awesomeness of tarot is by telling a story using the cards. We follow the cards as they are presented in Theresa Reed’s “The Tarot Coloring Book” (available at the Really Cool Gift Shop inside The Nutman Co. USA and other fine book stores).  Ahead of time, my normal (if there is such a thing) process is to shuffle the cards, cut the cards and draw 4 cards off the top.  Those 4 cards, along with the Significator card (this next Tuesday the story will be around the Death card) allow me to create a story.  I also add music that speaks to the energy of the story so that we can dance (I use Nia choreography) and then I end with a 20 minute meditation.

I’ve also been teaching Nia for 16 years. I searched most of my adult life for some kind of dance or exercise that allowed me to express myself.  I didn’t find it in the traditional dance or aerobics classes.  The first time I stepped into a Nia class in Dallas, Texas was in 1999. The experience was phenomenal and I knew I needed to find a Nia class in Wisconsin…and I did, and the rest as they say is history. Nia allows my body’s story to unfold. Nia uses 9 movements forms within the Dance Arts, Healing Arts and Martial Arts, all blended into an hour cardiovascular and spirited class.  Nia invites the realms of the Body, Mind, Emotions and Spirit to play with movements, steps and stances.

Manifesting a class that blends Nia and Tarot has been personally and creatively satisfying! Life led me from being a little girl scared of the dark to an older and wiser woman utilizing my experiences of the dark to shine a light into the lives of those who come to Sacred Space Studio.  Many come just to dance or just to find out more about tarot and ultimately find that their own life’s purpose and inner light unveils itself.

Has your life’s purpose unveiled itself?

Sacred Space Studio

Our new business website features my beautiful Sacred Space Studio.

I’ve been a Licensed Black Belt Nia Practitioner since 2008 and this is my 16th year of teaching Nia (White Belt in 2001, Blue Belt in 2003, Brown Belt in 2006).  It has and continues to be my passion for expressing creativity, for moving and dancing, and for opening to the guidance of spirit. Kathy Rink, Licensed White Belt Nia Practitioner also teaches at Sacred Space Studio.  Our classes are Saturdays, Mondays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6 p.m.

I also teach Awakening the Tarot: Embodying the Cards classes on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m.  This class is a combination of learning the tarot cards, moving/dancing to the energy of the cards and the class ends with a meditation.

I offer Reiki healing sessions by appointment and Chakradance Workshops are available twice a year.

Life has not always gone in the direction that I’ve wanted, but it’s always led me to exactly where I need to be.  I’ve learned and continue to learn to trust the path of life that the Universe has opened up for me.  It’s been and awesome journey so far with some unexpected delights along the way.

Tarot Card for 2017

queen-of-swords

Queen of Swords — I love this card so much on many different levels for moving into 2017:  I’m drawn to the energy and vibration of this card — the strong character of the woman; the glint of light on the sword and her crown indicating a relationship between spirit and form; the doves indicating peaceful interactions; the cat indicating intelligent, self-reliance; the purple and indigo colors indicating connection to intuition and the Divine.  The Queen of Swords offers a mature expression; she doesn’t mince words AND communicates clearly without being devoid of emotion.

I couldn’t have picked a more appropriate card for moving into 2017.

I’m so excited about my tarot business expanding as well as expanding my vision for my Sacred Space Studio classes:  Nia, Chakradance™ and Tarot Tuesdays.

Gratitude in All Things!

The Gift of Words for 2017

gift box

Every year I receive a few words that become my guideposts for the year.  In 2015, I received the words through a tarot reading from http://www.thetarotlady.com. In 2016, there were two words:  “Gratitude” and “Forgiveness”.  Those two words have been immense blessings this past year and will be forever in the forefront of my daily living; however, I also received seven (7) words through my own tarot reading on New Year’s Eve.  My gift of words for 2017:

HEALING, INTUTION, LEADERSHIP, MYSTIQUE, POWER, STABILITY AND STRUCTURE

As I move into 2017, it is my honor to continue to teach Nia, Chakradance™, and my own creation “Tarot Tuesday”.  I’d like to thank a few special folks who will continue to teach Nia at Sacred Space Studio in 2017 — to these three women I offer my heartfelt gratitude:  Kate Mann, Mary Carol Rick and Kathy Rink.

This blog started out as a way to share my love for Nia — that love has expanded into a few other directions. I’ll be offering blog posts about my Chakradance™ classes and my Tarot Tuesday classes, as well as tarot card interpretations and mini tarot readings.

I’m so excited for the direction of my intention(s) for 2017!

If you’d like to hear more, please follow this blog!

I’m also on Facebook (Jill Campana) and I maintain two business Facebook pages:  Conscious Movement Sacred Space Studio and The Nutman Company USA, Inc. And I’m on Twitter, too @tarotdancing.

Way Down Deep

sacral-chakra-300x300

My latest accomplishment has been to receive my certification as a Chakradance™ Facilitator.  I cannot express fully enough in words how grateful I am to have had this movement practice for the soul come into my life.  It was quite synchronistic that I found it actually.  I had noticed it several times on my Facebook newsfeed.  I’ve been facilitating meditation classes for quite some time and on most occasions go through the chakras.  When I taught Yoga back along the way, chakras were very much a part of my teaching.  I’ve been teaching Nia for 15 years and movement of the 3 body weights in Nia (the pelvis, chest and head) activate and open the 7 chakras.

I’ve been wanting to expand the offerings at Sacred Space Studio so when I logged on to my email one morning back in April, there was a message from “Jenny” of Chakradance™ letting me know that this day was the last day to register for the Facilitator training at a reduced cost.  All sorts of thoughts when through my head about not having the time or not being sure if this was exactly what I was looking for, yadda yadda yadda.  You know the drill.  But my intuition was much more open and willing than my mind, so I went for it.  And W.O.W. am I ever delighted that I followed my intuition.

The feedback I’ve received from the several one hour and 15 minutes classes I’ve taught has been encouraging and enlightening.  I finished my first of seven Workshops this past Sunday — starting with the Base Chakra — and the feedback from this workshop confirmed even further that I had made the right choice.

Spontaneous dance, specific music, creative visualizations and imagery, along with the wonderful Mandala-creating exercise contained in the classes and the workshops invites the participants to go way down deep.  It’s transformational.  It’s healing.  It’s truly a movement practice for the soul.

It is my pleasure to be offering Nia classes, Reiki classes and therapy sessions, Chakradance™ classes and workshops, Tarot readings and meditation classes at Sacred Space Studio.  If you find yourself compelled toward any of these offerings, please feel free to contact me.  You can find my contact information on the “About” page.

Good Vibrations

happy little girl

Three years ago I had an extensive tarot reading done about what was to emerge in 2015 for me. I had it rocking around in my being somewhere that I wanted to blend Nia (a cardiovascular dance and lifestyle practice) with tarot. The guidepost words that came out of that reading were: Dream, Create, Study, Learn, Inquire and Prepare. What better words does one need than those in order to manifest one’s dream? The tarot reading I had done also indicated that 2016 was actually when it would all take place. I am not a patient person. Waiting is not something I do comfortably or easily. When the tarot/Nia blend didn’t immediately happen for me in 2015, I turned my focus to other things — in other words I became distracted from my original intent.

So, to make a long story short…in 2016 I stepped in to my dream. I’ve been teaching Nia for 15 years — if you’re not familiar with Nia, check out http://www.nianow.com — my interest in tarot goes way back. In order to read tarot, one must dream, create, study, learn, inquire and prepare. and hat is exactly what I’ve been doing in 2016. I’ve successfully blended Nia and tarot. I bring a reading I’ve done ahead of time into my Tuesday Nia class. I bring enlarged color copies of each card used in the reading that I lay out on the floor in the tarot spread. We discuss the reading. Then we “dance the cards”. I put music to each of the initial 6 tarot cards. I end with a meditation of the chakras.

My dream has become a reality for me.

By the way, my dream also includes being a Black Belt Nia Practitioner, a Reiki Master Teacher, and my goal before the end of 2016 is to become a Certified Chakradance™ facilitator.

So good vibrations can be found at Sacred Space Studio!

Nia classes are on Saturdays and Mondays at 9:00 a.m., Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.; Tarot Tuesdays are on…Tuesdays; Kathy Rink, Certified White Belt Nia Practitioner has a Nia class on Thursdays at 9:00 a.m.

The Spaces Between

I just celebrated my 15th year of teaching Nia!  I’m in the 4th week of Chakradance™ training!  I’m continuing my Tarot Tuesday classes which are so much fun and so insightful!  I’m opening up shop for one-on-one Tarot readings!  I have an abundant Reiki practice!  I’m also the co-owner and bookkeeper for The Nutman Co. USA, Inc., the Really Cool Gift Shop, Java Dancer Coffee Bar and Sacred Space Studio.

But my full time job is living life to my highest vision…being in place to receive what life has to offer — opportunities and challenges that I meet head on and with an open heart.  Focused living.  Focused radiation of love into the world.

I like to set a focus in my mind’s eye for each day after awakening (and after a cup of coffee!).  I didn’t used to do this, but after 15 years of teaching Nia it’s a welcome habit that I enjoy.

Setting a focus before each Nia class is merely one of the things that sets apart this fabulous cardio fitness lifestyle practice from any other on the face of the earth. My focus for this past Saturday’s morning class was “The Spaces Between.”  This could relate to a good many things in life, but I narrowed it down to the spaces between our thoughts and our actions.  There is a SPLIT SECOND between a thought and the choice that follows — to act or not act — and what type of action if that is the choice.

And once an action has been taken there is the need to accept the consequences. There don’t seem to be many consequences in the human world these days with actions taken that cause harm.

There is always the Universe to which we are all accountable.  My mom used to say “what goes around comes around.”  I believe this to be true.

So those spaces between our thoughts and our actions are profoundly important.

I enjoy living and learning.  How about you?
